With his recent retirement fresh in mind, former Brazil coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo has been remembering Ronaldo fondly – regaling Spanish newspaper AS with stories of the 1999 Copa America, in which the Selecao’s staff had to take special precautions to accomodate the striker’s personal fitness regime:
“Ronaldo was already overweight, and we explored every possible way of making him drop some pounds.
“The team doctor gave him medicine, Xenical, which was effective, but it also accelerated his bowel movements. So, in order to avoid any ‘incidents’ the player had to wear diapers, which embarrassed him.”
Thanks Vanderlei. Magical stuff, I’m sure you’ll agree.Seems like a certain Gary Lineker could have learned a few things about involuntary-poo decorum from our Ron.
