It’s recently come to light that over the past few weeks there’s been a little bit (exaggeration) of controversy concerning fans of Lady Gaga (known worldwide as little monsters) and Grammy award-winning artist Adele.
A large group of Gaga’s fans have started what basically equates to an online smear campaign of Adele surrounding the continued success of the artist’s current album, 21. The 2011 album has received numerous awards and the “monsters” have been resorting to vicious high-school type cyber-bullying of Adele — particularly her weight — and the fires were fanned even more following Adele’s announcements of cancelling her shows for upcoming surgery. The fan used the opportunity to spread the rumor that the soul singer could not sell enough tickets for her show so had to cancel instead, which is ridiculous since in all actuality she consistently sells out huge venues.
Some of the most harsh of comments and jabs are on Twitter where really heinous remarks have peppered the social site. A parody video for Lady Gaga’s Born This Way is circling the web and features a fake Adele singing the lyrics: “I’m bootyful in my way because Arby’s makes nooo mistakes, I’ve got the right order, baby, I was born this weight”.
Lady Gaga has come out and spoken in response to the bad taste of her fans and released a statement denouncing their inappropriate behavior, proclaiming that she does not support anyone who has anything negative to say about Adele. “I wouldn’t condone anything against Adele.
Anyone who would say anything negative about Adele, I wouldn’t support. I love her immensely. She’s very sweet. We’ve exchanged emails about our mutual love.
I wish her all the best for her recovery in her vocals, and I can’t wait to hear her new music. She’s an amazing success in the U.S. and in the U.K., and it’s wonderful to see such strong women thriving in pop music.”
Lady Gaga, who has always been devoted to her fans, gets a serious commendation for her response to the treatment of fellow singer/songwriter Adele. At PopCultureShock, we wish continued success to both Adele and Lady Gaga in an industry that is just as much (if not more) about the music as it is the fans.
